8 tactics to get people talking about your website

To put it simply, Google judges you by your mates. The more websites that link to, or mention, your site, the more confidence Google has that your site is of value to people and will increase your rankings accordingly.

As increased rankings leads to increased traffic and sales, getting your website talked about is a key part of SEO, known as off-page SEO.

What is off-page SEO?

Off-page SEO includes a range of activities that are similar to networking. Unlike on-page SEO, that focuses on how to optimise your own website, off-page SEO aims to get your website mentioned in various places across the internet. This is in order to provide Google with confidence that your site is highly valuable and should be shown to people searching.

Both on-page and off-page SEO are essential components of an online strategy, to ensure that you’re easily found online.  If this is your first foray into the world of SEO, be sure to read our easy guide on how to get more traffic to your website for free.

8 Off-Page SEO tactics to try:

  1. Set up Google Maps for your business

    • Setup a Google Maps listing with your company details in the bio

    • Add your logo plus other images and content on it where relevant

  2. Create engaging and useful content

    • Create interesting blogs, images and videos that other people will want to share or link to from their websites.

    • Ego bait a local influencer by mentioning them in a blog so they share it.

  3. Build a presence on social media

    • Create accounts on Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram with your website linked in the bio.

    • Add posts about what you do at interesting points of production and include a link to the relevant product page.

  4. Get listed on business directories

    • Get your site listed on any industry groups that you’re part of.

    • If you’re a local business, add your site to directory websites.

    • You can even setup a Wikipedia page about your company.

  5. Link out to your clients from your website

    • Add a list of your clients on your website and link out to them.

    • Ask the companies that you work with to do the same for you.

  6. Reach out to the local news for easy exposure

    • If you’re doing something a little different, why not reach out to your local paper and let them know. Getting an article written about you not only gets you exposure but they’ll most likely link to your website too.

  7. Encourage people to leave reviews on your Google business listing

    • Ask happy customers to review you on your Google business listing or other review websites.

  8. Participate in online forums and blogs

    • This one can appear spammy so tread carefully but if you see a thread in a forum or a blog post comments section where you could help, by all means let people know. Better yet, get a happy customer to refer to you.
